Meet Dr. Gartner
Let me tell you a little about myself….
I grew up in Nebraska. After graduating from Dental school, I spent 10 years with the United States Navy. Annapolis became home in 1972 while serving in the U.S. Naval Academy as a Periodontist. I lived on the Eastern Shore for 15 years in Centreville, Maryland and now reside in Severna Park.
My hobbies revolve around outdoor activities. I enjoy fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping. I have a son and a daughter who have completed college. I also have 2 daughters, ages 15 and 11, and most of my activities involve family such as tent camping, water and snow skiing when watching my daughter’s swim, field hockey, lacrosse, and softball teams allow it.
My office décor reflects my love for waterfowl and wildlife. I have been active on committee for the Annapolis Chapter of Ducks Unlimited for about 20 years.
As a periodontist, I use new technology to repair damaged teeth and their foundations. This often involves surgery with bone grafting. We emphasize prevention; disease management without surgery is often possible for many patients.
My greatest advantage with my specialty is my experience. I am very compassionate for our patient’s innate fear of surgical treatment and do what I can to prevent surgery. However, when this becomes necessary, I have the experience and knowledge to apply more aggressive treatment successfully.

Certification
Dr. Gartner is a DIPLOMATE of the AMERICAN BOARD OF PERIODONTOLOGY. Becoming a DIPLOMATE involves completion of a certified training program and demonstration of skills and experience through Certification with the American Board of Periodontology in 1974. This involved advanced study and demonstrating skills and experience through (1) written examination, followed by (2) presentation of clinical cases to the board, followed by (3) an oral examination. This is prestigious since not all periodontists are board certified.
